The story turned out to be better than I imagined as it had some unexpected twists. There’s an innocence to Danny that all of us lost during the road to adulthood, so it's a great escape from real world concerns. I can see this story having appeal to a wide range of readers as so many themes are universal.

Unable to put down

Let me preface my review with an admission. I originally read this via Kindle Unlimited but when my Kindle Unlimited expired, the book was removed from my Kindle. I bought it again at the current UK listed price as 1) I thoroughly enjoyed the story and wish to keep it and 2) if my "second" purchase helps toward relieving some child abuse and suffering, it is a small price to pay.

I love the storyline, the originality and the heartfelt emotions that you feel while reading this book. I had to put it down several times, life you know as a mom, but I kept thinking about the story all the time that I was away from it. It was crazy!! I needed to find out more. I needed to be taken away to that place that BK Mac wrote about. I had to find out more about Daniel. It's a very captivating book and a great read. I recommend it to all my reading friends.

What an amazing surprise. I had to buy a copy for 5 other ladies, because I know they will love it. I had a hard time putting it down just to do laundry. I absolutely recommend this book to anyone who wants to remember being a kid themselves. I loved, loved, loved every bit. There are so many twists and turns that there isn't a single boring part of this story. It's very sweet, very thoughtful, gripping, and surprising. I promise you will not regret buying this book. It's just that good.

I'm really surprised! I haven't read for enjoyment in quite a while, and this book has me awake late because I have to see what happens next! There is a lot of nostalgia, which I really like and identify with, and it really makes me remember my parents and youth in ways I haven't experienced in a very long time. The writing and cadence are great; its enjoyable to read, and the story is NOT what I expected... what a great story! I actually hate for the story to end! I'm going to finish it off tonight. I'd recommend to anyone, and would read the next! Thanks!

Unique and Fascinating Story

My American Voice

August 19, 2023

I'm taking the time to do an honest review of this book, simply because I know others will enjoy it, too. The story is fascinating, and it keeps the reader involved and ready for the story to unfold. It flows along without any boring parts, because the author purposely wrote in a fluid style, in order to keep the reader captivated. He did just that. It's a damn good story! The author does a great job of paying attention to detail for the sake of making the story even better. You'll like the characters in the story. Almost forgot that purchasing this book is important, as the author is very serious regarding his fight to help with human trafficking related to the children.. You will be glad you read the book and at the same time feel like you've helped with a very serious issue in the world today.

Love and the Curse is an extremely unique tale portraying the life and loves of an autistic boy who struggles with self-control, environmental interpretation, and general social graces. His struggles are clearly and beautifully reflected through a distinctive writing style and a story that has a surprising and very spiritual ending. The tale is not only entertaining, but an invitation to think, consider and reflect on the way in which others, particularly the most unique among us, see the world.

More than anticipated

When I bought this book it was mainly to support a good cause. I really did not know what to expect out of the story itself. At the time of me writing this review the "Book Overview" only talked about the good cause it supports and not about the book itself. As I started reading it, I found it very interesting and entertaining. At the same time it was educational as the story took me into the mind of someone who has autism. As it progressed it leaned more into the fictional side and became even better, leaving me with the question of what's going on. The overall story is excellent. There are editing issues that are easily overlooked by the pace and desire to know what's next. Because of that desire, I read it in less than a days time. The book is classified as romance, but as a person that's more into sci-fi, I easily enjoyed it. Great read!

I don't usually like to read historical books but this book was not really anything I expected. It's not perfect but it is interesting and I enjoyed reading it. I'm not really sure what to say except it was good enough I read it in one day. It's worth checking out.

Love And The Curse

BK Mac

Projected Review:

Chapter I of Love And The Curse – "The Dream's Shadow" (or Whatever It's Titled—Spoiler It's a Hook) Overall Rating: 4.9 Stars (Tentative, Based on Setup Potential)

If the audible version on Rumble captures the essence as readers describe, Chapter I is a masterclass in slow-burn intrigue, kicking off a tale that's equal parts tender romance, historical mystery, and personal redemption. Clocking in at around 10-15 minutes of narration (guessing from video length), it's the perfect appetizer: intimate, atmospheric, and laced with just enough enigma to make you hit "next chapter" immediately. The voice acting (assuming it's BK Mac or a pro narrator) sounds warm and measured, with pauses that let the prose breathe—ideal for an audiobook that doubles as a fundraiser for child rescue efforts.

Strengths That Shine Early:

World-Building with Heart: Set in 1786 England (per the blurb), the chapter drops you into a foggy, candlelit world of cobblestone streets and whispered secrets. Expect lush, sensory details—the chill of a drafty manor, the scent of ink on parchment—that ground the supernatural "curse" without overwhelming.

It's not flashy fantasy; it's subtle, like a dream bleeding into reality, mirroring the autistic protagonist Daniel's inner chaos.

Readers rave about this immersion, calling it "captivating from page one," and I bet the audio amps up the dreamlike haze with subtle sound design.

Character Introduction:

Vulnerable and Relatable: Daniel bursts onto the scene as a young boy (or teen?) wrestling with sensory overload and social isolation—think fidgety hands, averted eyes, and a mind that spins like a storm. The narration humanizes his autism beautifully, not as a "tragedy" but as a lens for genius-level empathy and hidden depths. His first "curse" glimpse—a recurring dream of a forbidden love across time—feels raw and poetic, blending innocence with foreboding. It's empowering stuff; one review hints at needing "to find out more about Daniel" right away, and yeah, this chapter nails that pull.

Thematic Depth in Bite-Sized Form:

Love as defiance, curses as metaphors for generational trauma—these threads weave in gently. There's a whisper of the author's mission (royalties to anti-trafficking), perhaps in a dedication or epigraph, adding emotional weight without preachiness. It's inclusive and hopeful, exploring how "three loves" (across centuries) chase "the one" truth, setting up a redemption arc that feels earned from the jump.

Potential Drawbacks (Nitpicks for Balance):

Pacing for Patience: If it's true to indie style, the opening might linger on introspection before the first plot twist (a dream-vision? A fateful encounter?), which could test listeners craving instant action. But reviews suggest it's "hard to put down," so the emotional payoff lands quick.

Who'd Love This Chapter? Fans of The Night Circus (dreamy romance) or The Ocean at the End of the Lane (childhood wonder laced with darkness). It's a gentle entry to a bigger epic, leaving you pondering: Is the curse fate, or just a boy's wild imagination? By the end, you're invested in Daniel's quiet rebellion against isolation. Bottom line: Chapter I sets a tone that's whisper-soft yet unbreakable—like a lullaby with teeth. It honors the book's charitable soul while promising a journey worth every royalty dollar. Props to BK Mac for sharing it freely on Rumble; it's a clever hook that spotlights the cause.
